Savannah & Travis and I met back in 2015 for their colorful and lively engagement session at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and later that year for their backyard farm wedding. They’re some of the sweetest people and are so adorable together; laidback and willing to go with whatever weird ideas I cook up. For their daughter Kylie’s first birthday, we got to shoot together again for their cake smash and I was thrilled. It was lovely meeting up again at their home, where Savannah had gotten ready for their wedding. And then to head over to Travis’s family property again, where the wedding was held was meaningful. I love revisiting special places, locations that hold meaning and that will get to live on in photographs.
Rainbow Cake Smash
We started off just outside their home. Then we walked to a field nearby on their property, where some of the best lighting awaited us. From there we headed to Travis’s parents’ house, inspected the Christmas tree with Kylie {who was all about it}…. And, then headed outside for some cake smashing! First we put her in an adorable NASA spaceship box made by Travis, then moved onto cake time.
One of the things I find so amusing about cake smashes is how I really never know what to expect. You never can anticipate how a one-year old will react, if they’ll enjoy it, if they’ll hate it, etc. And that’s the sort of challenge and spontaneity I live for as a photographer! Kylie had some mixed feelings at first. But warmed up to the cake quickly before diving in with both hands {and a foot}.
I love seeing my wedding and engagement couples again, not only because I just really like you as people, but because I love seeing the dynamics grow and change within your family. It’s such an honor!
