Having known Amaretta & Steve for years, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing both their engagement session and their wedding, and was so touched when they reached out for a maternity session! Amaretta and I knew we wanted this session to be extra special, and I loved her ideas from the start. She focused on evoking images of mother nature and earth goddesses. So, we planned for a waterfall maternity session up in north Georgia.

Mountain Maternity Session

But mother nature, as is her prerogative, had other plans in mind. The day of the session, the temperature suddenly dropped by about 30 degrees, the winds kicked up, and a stormy gray sky rolled in. Luckily, this was the perfect storm for some of the dreamiest photos I’ve ever taken. Amaretta is the queen of stoic and serene, which couldn’t have fit the weather more perfectly. Her dark green maternity dress stood out against the gray of the skies. Yet, it still blendend into the treeline and nature at the same time. The entire session was such a perfect dream! We traveled all over, jumping to different vineyards to grab the best possible views of the mountains and completely one of my all-time favorite sessions.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is thinking on my feet and being spontaneous; rolling with the punches and knowing things won’t always go to plan. This is why it’s so important to have that bond with your photographer. Then you’ll always know you’re in good hands no matter what is thrown at you!
