Libba has been a dear friend of mine for just under a year. When we get the chance for a coffee catch up, it’s never enough time, wanting to connect on pretty much everything in the world: from artistic pursuits to work to partners to our own personal journeys and triumphs. She’s a great person, a light in any room she enters, and I was beyond thrilled to photograph her and her family’s Athens family portraits. They’ve just moved into this new place out in Athens, on a gorgeous plot of land in a huge house and I’m so psyched for them! So we wanted to capture the time, the place, and the people to commemorate all of this and so much more with an Athens family portrait session.

The cast of polyamorous players include Libba, her partners Matt & Victor, Matt’s partner Amy Sue, plus as many of the animals that felt like cooperating {which turned out to mostly be Henry and Penny}. We started off with a board game, something the household has been really enjoying lately to spend time together: a rousing round of Golden Girls Monopoly! Then we explored their property, getting in a walk for Henry the dog, and headed into Athens.
There are so many great spots in Athens - or any downtown area! - so I was looking forward to shooting there again. We met back up at Rook & Pawn, a board cafe cafe and bar that I’m a huge fan of. The mural right outside their door is one of my favorite pieces of street art, and the overgrown ivy walls on their outdoor patio was too lush and pretty to pass up. To finish up, we headed up the ramp to the backyard of Creature Comforts Brewing to another beautiful and colorful piece of wall art in all blue tones.
This group of people was SO much fun to be around and have SO much life; really encouraging each other in a loving and beautifully warm way that gives me warm fuzzies just thinking about it.
