Devon & Sarah’s awesomely badass and offbeat wedding in Jacksonville, Florida was the kickstart of this year’s wedding season, and the first of many travels I get to take, this year.
I first met Sarah when she modeled for one of my early shoots back in 2010 or so, and I was over the MOON when she asked me to shoot her and Devon’s wedding in Jacksonville, FL this past March. ESPECIALLY as I started finding more and more out about their plans: a bar brawl kilts and voodoo wedding? YES, PLEASE.
Their super offbeat wedding ceremony was at the Fly’s Tie Irish Pub in Atlantic Beach, complete with tatted officiant & a handfasting, all taking place on the stage for bands in the middle of the pub. We then skittered down the block to Acme Tattoo, where we did the family pictures. That’s right, family shots in their favorite tattoo parlour. Awesome.
We came back to Fly’s Tie for the reception, featuring a live local band {who, as some point during the day, sang Dennis Leary’s “I’m an Asshole”} and an AMAZING combination of NOLA and Irish-inspired foods! In fact, there was NO wedding cake or cake cutting. Instead, they had a tower of beignets they poured whiskey sauce onto!
Instead of a grand exit, the couple closed out the night with a huge staged bar brawl. WHAT?! Yes. God, yes.
Everything about this nontraditional & offbeat wedding said “Devon & Sarah.” They put SO MUCH of themselves into the day, and that’s one of my absolutely favorite things my amazing couples do. They make it a celebration of WHO THEY ARE as people, both as individuals and as a couple.

Thank you Devon & Sarah. Your entire wedding weekend was a BLAST to experience with you. And thank you to Mishaun for coming with me on this wacky journey as my second shooter.

I decided to start commenting because I hope when you get to our wedding people say nice things too.
This wedding looks amazing. Tartan, those rings, her headpiece, her freaking tattoo sleeves, their dance pictures. All of it is amazing and I’m very much covetous of people who are friends with them.
(Also may I please have the bride’s copper sequin clutch?)
Nice work, Raven. (of course)
